Artist Takeovers
Mass provides members access to pop-up studios and spaces at all three of Mana Contemporary’s locations. Welcome, from Mana Jersey City, artists Z Behl, Alberto Montaño Mason, Antonio Murado, and Ray Smith as they take over Miami’s historic Flagler Street with new site-responsive projects.
Z Behl, Climb to Glory
30 E Flagler Street
A participatory installation, Climb to Glory is a rock climbing wall that invites the audience to harness up and scale a 40-foot climb—over hammers, airplanes, and piles of money—towards perceived success. Presented by Equinox. Special hours: 12–6PM
Alberto Montaño Mason,
The Breath of Many
129 E Flagler Street
In The Breath of Many, Alberto Montano has created several stand-alone pieces, all related in different measure to the current political climate, with particular attention to the situation at the US–Mexico border.
Antonio Murado, Phil Davis
138 E Flagler Street
Antonio Murado captures the spirit and scenographic narrative of a man bound to retreat into the prison of his own imagination through his installation, Phil Davis.
Ray Smith, MR MANNERS
130 E Flagler Street
Based on the character MR MANNERS, this series of paintings on mirrored plexiglass is a means of reflecting the state of America: from the current political climate and urban plight to mass consumption, homelessness, and global warming; the work questions what it means to be “American.”
